Dry dipterocarp forest is a characteristic ecosystem of the Central Highlands, clearly found in areas such as B\u1ea3n \u0110\u00f4n. This type of forest is relatively open, dominated by trees of the Dipterocarpaceae family, which shed their leaves during the dry season, creating a well-lit environment with a rich grass layer beneath the canopy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike dense tropical rainforests, dry dipterocarp forests have a distinct seasonal pattern: lush and green in the rainy season, but dry and sparse in the dry months. These conditions form an ideal habitat for large mammals, especially the elephant.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elephants require wide ranges for movement, diverse food sources such as grasses, leaves, and bark, as well as access to seasonal water sources. The open structure of the dry forest, combined with grasslands and waterways, provides all these essential conditions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the past to the present, the presence of elephants in the Central Highlands reflects a close relationship between the species and this unique environment.
