Đầu mũi tên được vót nhọn hoặc gắn thêm kim loại để tăng khả năng xuyên.

Tùy theo mục đích săn bắt, mũi tên được chế tác khác nhau: tên dùng cho thú nhỏ thường đơn giản, trong khi tên săn thú lớn có đầu hơi tòe ra hoặc có mấu để khi găm vào con vật sẽ không dễ rơi ra, đặc biệt khi con vật chạy trong rừng.
